Bringing English to the Stage within the Speak & Sparkle Project

Within the scope of the Speak & Sparkle Project, we organized a special event at Manisa Social Sciences High School with the aim of transforming English from a purely academic subject into an enjoyable, creative, and experience-based learning process. The English Dubbing Competition was held as a two-day festival, open to participation from all students across the school.
The event was led by Esma Dila Eldeymez and carried out under the mentorship of Meltem Çevik. The main objective of the project was to help students realize that English can be learned in a fun and engaging way, while also providing them with a space to gain stage experience and self-confidence.
Throughout the festival, students performed English dubbing for scenes they selected themselves. This process highlighted not only language proficiency, but also skills such as pronunciation, intonation, emotional expression, stage presence, and confidence. Participants had the opportunity to actively use English while showcasing their creativity.
The competition was evaluated by a jury based on a pre-determined and transparent assessment rubric. This ensured fairness and allowed students to clearly understand the criteria on which their performances were assessed. At the end of the festival, certificates were awarded to participants in accordance with the jury’s evaluations.
This two-day festival contributed significantly to students’ language development while offering them valuable stage experience. As part of the Speak & Sparkle Project, the event created a productive and motivating atmosphere within the school and provided an unforgettable learning experience by combining English, performance, and self-expression.
